Borjomi-Bakuriani Full Day Tour

One of the most interesting attractions in the Georgian resort town of Borjomi is a cable car leaving from Mineral Water Park and heading uphill offering lovely and scenic views of Mineral Water park. Sometimes it’s just enough to take that ride here to enjoy those scenery and beautiful views of Borjomi.

The history of the park dates back to Medieval times when it was used primarily by the local aristocracy for hunting. When Georgia lost its independence and became part of the Russian Empire, the Grand Duke Michael Nicolaievich was given the post of Governor-General of Transcaucasia. He found the local beauty of the Borjomi park so impressive he decided to build his personal summer residence there.

Noticeable changes to the park came when the Grand Duke Michael restricted any lumbering or hunting without permission, thus laying the foundation for the park’s future. In 1995, the Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park was endorsed and created with the support of the World Wildlife Fund and the German government and was officially inaugurated in 2001.

Bakuriani is a mountain resort situated on the northern slope of the Tianeti Range in southern Georgia’s Samtskhe Javaketi Region. It lies 180 kilometers from Tbilisi at an elevation of 1700 meters (5576 feet) above sea level. Historically, the first residents of Bakuriani were Ukrainians. In 1816, approximately 80 Ukrainian families who were settled here began to cut and sell local timber, which was largely exported to Germany to produce musical instruments. Throughout the 18th century, Ukrainians forced to flee their country were given homes in Bakuriani for resettlement.

The first skiers appeared on the scene in 1932. During the 1970s and ’80s, Bakuriani was a key training base for the Soviet Union’s nation Olympic alpine skiing teams, where the skills of many famous Soviet skiers were honed to perfection.
